Gene Barsky ensures clients get a program shaped to fit their precise needs, while Alfredo Polar keeps Nordis’ production floor running smoothly, reliably and on schedule.
Gene Barsky, Solutions Consultant
When a new client signs with Nordis, their Expresso® customer communication management (CCM) program is built around how they actually do business. That’s where Gene Barsky comes in. As a Solutions Consultant, he learns a client’s communication practices from the ground up, and turns that into a comprehensive program requirements plan exclusively for them.
By design, onboarding kickoff calls can include dozens of people on the client side, spanning billing and finance, IT and data management, customer support, marketing and legal departments. Different industries include additional specialists. Gene’s utility customers, for example, may invite operations and field service in onboarding to coordinate automated alerts for repairs or to connect smart meter data triggers to customer messaging.
Gene says his role is somewhat of an interpreter. “I translate our conversations into Nordis terminology, so the Implementation team knows exactly what they’re creating for documents and packages that cross print and mail, email and text channels.”
Every client wants something done a little differently and Gene flags the particulars. He says that digging into detail is his favorite part of the job. “It’s not just the what, but the why and the how.”
Once requirements are locked and Implementation builds the program, Gene moves the client to their Nordis Customer Success Manager for ongoing support.
Gene came to Nordis earlier this year from Warner Bros. Discovery, where he worked in technical program management on the team that rebuilt and upgraded the HBO Max app. Previously, he was a business analyst for Nike and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Gene says what’s struck him most since joining is how much ownership people take, and how far a good idea travels once someone raises it.
Outside of work, Gene fosters dogs through a local animal shelter. Originally from Brooklyn, Gene moved to South Florida in 2018 to get closer to family and further from the snow. He’s traveled widely but hasn’t made it to Southeast Asia yet. Vietnam and the Philippines are at the top of his list.
Alfredo Polar, Director of Production, Coral Springs
Every communication that Nordis prints, inserts and mails from its Florida production facility passes through Alfredo Polar’s operation. Nordis processes hundreds of millions of critical customer communications per year across print, email and text, and as Director of Production, it’s Alfredo’s floor where the physical half of that volume takes shape.
Alfredo joined Nordis in April, bringing 27 years’ experience in the industry, most recently as a senior manager at PCI, one of Nordis’ partners. His first move as director wasn’t operational. It was personal. Over several weeks, he met with all 65 production associates one-on-one, learning about their backgrounds and interests, as well as their core activities. The notes from those conversations became his early roadmap for realigning roles, job descriptions and reporting lines.
“Clarity and openness keep a team pulling in the same direction,” Alfredo says. “In an environment where we’re running three shifts a day, six days a week, our associates show up for clients and each other.”
The equipment on the print and mail production floor keeps pace with that commitment, he says, noting Nordis recently added an Epic high-speed mail inserting system and will install another high-speed, roll-fed printer this fall. The operation leverages barcode scanning and camera verification to ensure 100% delivery accuracy and help prevent assembly or insertion errors.
Associates are trained to resolve issues themselves and escalate what they can’t, and Alfredo stays reachable by phone or text on his off hours. “We’re committed to our clients and SLAs,” he says of the production mindset. “The show must go on.”
That process focus paid off recently when an iguana took out a utility line near the plant, briefly knocking power offline. Nordis’ generator kicked in and production never missed a beat. For the record, animals cause thousands of power outages every year, and wildlife is the second leading cause of unplanned power interruptions in the U.S. after severe weather.
It’s a good reminder of the bigger picture, Alfredo says: Coral Springs and Las Vegas back each other up. About 20 Production and Customer Success team members at the two sites meet daily to trade updates, so nothing happens on one floor the other doesn’t already know about.
Away from work, he is a homebody by choice. He and his wife Maria have a daughter, Kassandra, about to turn seven. Born and raised in Miami, Alfredo is a devoted fan of all the local teams — the Dolphins, Heat, Hurricanes and Marlins — and loves sports history and stats as much as watching the games themselves.
