As founder and CEO, my No. 1 priority has been developing and sustaining the right organizational culture. I believe our people and our culture are the reason Nordis has been and is so successful. My strategy is to recruit and build up employees that share our goals and values, and they build the company.
Starting with having an open-door policy for employees and providing mentoring, my approach to organizational and employee development has evolved and expanded over the years. I’m a spiritual guy and as I grew, changed and learned, I began sharing more of what has helped me along the way.
Meditation has been life-changing for me, so several years ago I began leading a weekly meditation practice in our Coral Springs headquarters. I also regularly email short reflections to friends and colleagues that may help on their personal and professional journeys.
I’ve recently expanded on that practice by launching Wisdom Wednesday, which are weekly social posts offering encouragement and inspiration that hopefully will resonate with a broader audience. One post, which sums up my reasoning for developing Wisdom Wednesday, focused on ripples: “When you create a difference in someone’s life, you not only impact their life, you impact everyone influenced by them throughout their entire lifetime. No act is too small. One by one, this is how to make the ocean rise.”
The perspectives can apply equally to work life. For example, a few weeks back, I shared how we may find ourselves bound by invisible ropes that no longer serve us. Organizations have this challenge too. Mindsets such as “we’ve always done it this way” are holding them back when adopting new approaches that align more closely with their current strategy and would serve them better. I’ve also written about trusting in your journey even if you don’t fully understand it at that moment, which is similar to the approach companies should take in embracing new technologies such as AI.
Wisdom Wednesday is about putting out good energy into the world. I’m not interested in telling people what to do. I am offering what may be a different perspective and then it’s their decision to go right or left. But I want them to know they have a choice to go right or left.
