Directors of Finance and Client Success Alice Miller and Chip Bunnell ensure financial health and client happiness go hand-in-hand.
Alice Miller, Director of Finance
Alice Miller is Nordis’ numbers person. She’s focused not just on the bottom line but on every line that precedes it.
In her role, Alice oversees accounts payable and the company budget. She also produces the monthly statements that provide information about the company’s financial position and performance in compliance with GAAP and SEC standards
As a mid-sized company, Nordis employs some of the same financial strategies and meets these reporting requirements as a large company, such as lease accounting and purchases made on notes payable, and Alice is on top of all of them. She also participates in the annual independent audit, a significant undertaking that’s wrapping up now.
Alice leveraged her MBA earlier in her career, focusing on financial planning and analysis. After moving to Florida, she found that there were more opportunities in accounting than in planning, so she returned to college for her CPA.
Joining Nordis almost a year ago, Alice found the role especially appealing for the perspective it requires.
“I love having a broader view of what is going on in the business,” Alice says. “You have to learn a lot about what the company does and how it operates to be able to account for things correctly. This is such an interesting company and industry.”
She also appreciates how hands-on everyone is. “Every single person is in a roll up your sleeves position, including the CEO, Ronnie Selinger,” says Alice. “In a company like this, every department is lean and working. Ronnie’s energy and enthusiasm rub off on everyone.”
Alice says the Nordis team is what defines the company: “People from different departments getting together to focus on what Nordis and its customers need, what can take us to the next level, and how can we all make that happen?”
In her free time, Alice volunteers with robotics clubs in South Florida, a passion she developed after one of her sons became involved in high school robotics. She loves the learning aspect for students, but also that kids who aren’t into sports have a club they can relate to and participate in.
She also supports animal welfare, and her alter ego can be found in Scratchers the Cat, the costume she dons for the Humane Society of Broward County, Florida’s annual fundraiser. “When you’re disguised, you can be really outgoing and silly because nobody knows it’s you.”
Chip Bunnell, Director of Client Success
To deliver on the ‘Client Success’ portion of his title, Chip Bunnell focuses on his team of Client Success Managers. Chip sees his first responsibility as helping them thrive in their positions. With his experience in national account management, corporate training and team development, Chip serves as a sounding board for his people and removes any obstacles that may impede their ability to successfully and efficiently deliver for clients.
“I’m an advocate for both our clients and our internal teams,” Chip says. “Whatever the request, it’s my job to help find a solution to fulfill that need and to determine how best to unlock success.”
Chip and his team huddle to strategize ways to help clients achieve their business goals, including meeting their customers’ needs. For example, they’re working with a healthcare RCM provider to add Spanish language versions to its print communications, which has already led to new business opportunities for the client.
Chip has always worked with technology-forward companies, so he understands the precision and expertise required to prepare and deliver a bill or notification to a consumer are highly technical and very specialized. When a client goes live with Expresso, one of the last quality control steps is for Chip and his team to ensure all documents present correctly in an online quality check. Team members then head to the production floor to review the actual printed documents for perfect formatting.
“It’s an amazing responsibility to do that final check for a customer,” Chip says. “The fact their product is being produced, mailed and received by the end recipient, exactly the way that they intended makes me so proud of our company and the level of precision we demonstrate daily for our customers.”
Away from work, Chips loves travel. Egypt and Venice are at the top of his list. He’s an avid photographer and a scuba instructor. Chip moved from Orlando to South Florida to be closer to the ocean and its beautiful reefs, wrecks and hundreds of species of fish. He is frequently found on a dive boat with an underwater camera rig in his hand.
Chip speaks of Mel Fisher, the treasure hunter who famously located the Atocha, a Spanish galleon that sank off the coast of Key West. Fisher started each day by announcing, “Today’s the day!” That attitude resonates with Chip. “Learn from yesterday, but it’s the past,” he says. “Today is a clean slate. It’s up to each of us to make what we will out of it to find joy and accomplishment in both our personal and business lives.”
